THREE Gwanda residents have appeared in court facing murder charges after allegedly attacking a man during a dispute following a drinking spree.

Lisa Dube (24), Simelweyinkosi Dube (23) and Blessed Ndlovu, all from the Garikai/Hlalani Kuhle area, briefly appeared before Gwanda provincial magistrate, Mrs Patience Madondo.

They were not asked to plead and were remanded in custody until May 5.
Mrs Madondo advised them to apply for bail through the High Court.

Prosecuting, Mr Ngonidzashe Shumba told the court that the incident occurred on April 19 at around 4am at Phakama Business Centre, following a dispute between Lisa and the now-deceased, Anyway Komiche.

“Lisa and the deceased were involved in a misunderstanding over an undisclosed issue. A fight broke out between them, prompting Simelweyinkosi and Blessed to intervene. They joined in and assaulted Komiche,” said Mr Shumba.

He added that Lisa allegedly took a Colombian knife from Blessed and stabbed Komiche in the chest, causing him to collapse and lose consciousness. Blessed is accused of removing the knife from the scene in an attempt to conceal it.

The matter was reported to the police, who attended the scene. Komiche was pronounced dead on arrival at Gwanda Provincial Hospital, and his body was taken to the mortuary.

Following police investigations, the three suspects were arrested and charged with murder. — @DubeMatutu
