Gwanda-Tshitaudze Member of Parliament, Cde Fisani Manala Moyo, has taken a leading role in efforts to ensure Zimbabweans returning from South Africa reintegrate into their communities with dignity and support.
His intervention comes after President Emmerson Mnangagwa called on Zimbabweans to embrace and support returnees, whether they come home voluntarily or through Government-assisted programmes.
In a statement, Cde Moyo said Government had initiated the voluntary repatriation of Zimbabwean nationals from South Africa following concerns over possible civil unrest in that country.
“My fellow constituents whom I hold in high esteem, I would like to inform you that the Government has initiated the voluntary repatriation of our brothers and sisters from the Republic of South Africa,” he said.
Cde Moyo said his constituency office stands ready to assist all returnees from Gwanda-Tshitaudze and encouraged them to approach the office for support.
“All returnees from Gwanda-Tshitaudze are free to come to my Constituency Office. My team is on standby to help you reintegrate with dignity,” he said.
He said the office would assist returnees with obtaining documentation, food support, referrals for temporary accommodation and facilitating school placements for children.
The legislator described returnees as an important component of Zimbabwe’s national development agenda.
“Our National Vision 2030 aims for an upper-middle-income economy built on unity and productivity. You, our returning sons and daughters, are vital to that vision,” said Cde Moyo.
He noted that many returnees arrive home with limited resources and therefore require support from Government, communities and other stakeholders to rebuild their lives.
Cde Moyo said despite prevailing economic pressures and climate-related challenges, Government remained committed to ensuring that no citizen is left behind.
He also urged communities to reject rumours and stereotypes about returnees and instead embrace them in the spirit of Ubuntu.
“My office will work with the District Development Coordinator, Social Welfare, and relevant Ministries to ensure your immediate welfare needs are addressed. Let us reject rumour and speculation,” he said.
“Zimbabwe is a peaceful nation. Under the Second Republic, we are rebuilding together. I urge all community members to welcome returnees with Ubuntu and assist where possible.”
