A touch of royalty, elegance and empowerment is coming to Gwanda as local organisers prepare to host The Gwanda Town Royal Bridgerton Affair: A Diamond of the Season Ball on 26 July 2026. Inspired by the glamour of the Bridgerton era but firmly rooted in present-day realities, the event aims to create a space where women can celebrate, connect and inspire one another.
The event is being organised by Talent Khumalo and Petronella Ngwenya, who say it is about much more than fine gowns and beautiful décor. Their goal is to create a platform that encourages women to grow, support each other and pursue their purpose with confidence.
Drawing inspiration from the elegance of 1813, particularly the fashion, ballroom culture and sense of grace associated with the Bridgerton era, the organisers have adapted the concept to reflect the needs and aspirations of women in Gwanda today.
“We borrowed the beauty of 1813 – the gowns, the ballroom, and the dignity. But the heart of this event is 2026 Gwanda: inspiration, motivation, and sisterhood,” said Khumalo.
While the event embraces elegance and sophistication, the organisers say its true purpose is to encourage women to look beyond appearances and focus on their personal goals, talents and ambitions.
“Bridgerton 1813 was about women being presented to society. The Bridgerton Affair 2026 is about women presenting their purpose to the world,” she added.
According to the organisers, the event carries a strong message of empowerment and self-worth.
They hope it will remind women that they are capable of achieving great things and deserving of recognition for their contributions to their families, communities and professions.
“The affair carries a theme that reminds every woman that she is valuable, rare, and worthy of being celebrated. It is not just music and glamour, but motivation that moves, wisdom that builds careers, and a reminder of who women are,” she said.
A key feature of the event will be talks by inspirational speakers who will share practical experiences and advice on issues affecting women.
Organisers say discussions will focus on personal growth, career development, identity and life experiences, with the full line-up of speakers set to be announced closer to the event.
“The event will feature inspirational speakers and real conversations,” said Khumalo.
Ngwenya said the idea was born out of a desire to create a space where women could come together to learn from one another without feeling pressured to compete.
She said there are many social events in the town, but few that intentionally focus on empowerment and personal development.
“We saw a gap for elegance with intention. Gwanda has parties and entertainment, but we wanted a space where women gather for growth without competition,” said her co-organiser Ngwenya.
Like many community initiatives, organising the event has come with its own challenges. However, the organisers say they remain focused on their vision and the impact they hope to make.
“Every big vision comes with tests. We overcome them through teamwork, faith, and remembering the purpose: women building women,” she said.
Looking beyond this year’s gathering, the organisers hope to establish the Royal Bridgerton Affair as a signature annual event on Gwanda’s social calendar.
They envision it becoming a tradition that combines elegance, celebration and meaningful conversations that uplift women.
“Yes. Our long-term vision is for it to become an annual Diamond of the Season Ball for Gwanda women,” added Ngwenya.
The event has already generated excitement within the community, with many expressing interest in its unique blend of style, culture and empowerment.
If successful, the Royal Bridgerton Affair could become more than just a glamorous social gathering. It could provide a lasting platform for women to connect, inspire one another and celebrate their achievements while looking confi
