FOR Filabusi-born gospel musician Khonzani Salvin Bhebhe, music has always been more than entertainment. It is a calling, a ministry and a way of bringing people closer to God.
Now performing under the name Khonzani Salvin, the emerging gospel artiste is preparing for what he believes will be a significant milestone in his ministry — the recording of a live DVD titled Songs of Revival, scheduled for early next month.
The project comes at a time when the Insiza-born musician is working to establish himself in Zimbabwe’s gospel music scene, carrying a message that he says was placed on his heart through a personal encounter with God.
Raised in a strong Christian environment, Khonzani’s journey into music began in church. Week after week, he watched worship leaders minister through song and was inspired by the role music played in bringing people together in worship.
His father was involved in gospel music, while his sisters served as worship leaders in church. Surrounded by music and ministry from a young age, it did not take long for him to discover his own passion for worship.
Over the years, he also drew inspiration from worship leaders and mentors, including Andile Ndlovu, whose dedication to ministry left a lasting impression on him.
Today, Khonzani describes himself as a gospel musician, singer, songwriter, worship leader and music minister. His music combines different gospel styles, allowing him to reach a wide audience while remaining true to his message.
“My music is a blend of contemporary gospel, worship, traditional gospel, and a touch of hip-hop. I want my sound to lift people spiritually, but also connect with different audiences. God wants to draw people closer to Him. That is what drives my music,” said Khonzani.
Those who have followed his journey say his music reflects both his church roots and his desire to present the gospel in a way that resonates with modern audiences.
At the centre of his current work is Songs of Revival, a project he says was born out of a deeply personal spiritual experience.
According to Khonzani, the vision for the live DVD dates back to 2020, when he felt God calling him to a deeper place of faith and renewal. What began as a personal spiritual journey eventually grew into a ministry focused on encouraging others to seek the same renewal.
“What started as a personal call to renew my faith became a bigger assignment. God wants me to carry songs that wake up hearts, restore hope, and bring people back to Him,” he said.
That experience inspired his debut single, Revival (Lord We Want More), which was released in October 2025. The song introduced listeners to the message that now forms the foundation of his ministry.
Through the upcoming DVD recording, Khonzani hopes to build on that message and encourage believers to deepen their relationship with God.
For him, revival is not simply about attending church programmes or special events.
“Revival is coming back to God’s heart and building a deeper relationship with Him,” he said.
The journey, however, has not been without challenges.
Like many independent gospel artistes, Khonzani has had to navigate the financial realities of producing quality music. Recording, equipment, promotion and event organisation all require significant resources, something many up-and-coming musicians struggle to secure.
Despite these obstacles, he remains convinced that faith and perseverance will help him achieve his goals.
He says every challenge along the way has strengthened his belief that God provides the resources needed to fulfil a calling.
Rather than allowing setbacks to discourage him, he has used them as motivation to work harder and remain focused on his purpose.
Throughout his journey, Khonzani says he has also benefited from the guidance and support of several spiritual leaders and mentors who have invested in both his personal and ministry growth.
Among those he credits are Simnqobile Mangena, OmaMfundisi, Mrs Phiri, Mrs Shereni, Reverend Mkhize, Pastor Shereni and Pastor Phiri.
“They have invested in my spiritual and ministry growth,” he said.
Their encouragement, he says, has helped him remain grounded and focused on the message behind the music.
As he prepares for the recording of Songs of Revival, Khonzani’s ambitions extend beyond the upcoming event. While he is committed to growing his music career, he says his ultimate goal is to touch lives through his songs.
He wants his music to reach audiences not only in Zimbabwe but across borders, carrying messages of hope, healing and restoration.
“I want my music to reach more people in Zimbabwe and beyond. My prayer is that every song becomes a tool God uses to bring healing, restoration, and a deeper walk with Him.”
For now, his attention is firmly fixed on the live DVD recording set for 4 July. He views the project as the beginning of a new chapter rather than the destination itself.
After the release, he plans to continue writing and recording music centred on revival, worship, hope and restoration. He also hopes to minister on more platforms and collaborate with other gospel artistes who share a similar vision.
For the young musician from Filabusi, Songs of Revival represents more than a collection of songs. It is the continuation of a journey that began in church many years ago and has grown into a mission to inspire faith and bring people closer to God through music.
As the countdown to the recording continues, Khonzani remains guided by the same purpose that first drew him to gospel music — using his gift to uplift others and share a message of spiritual renewal.
