Gwaunza appointed Chief Justice, Garwe deputy CJ

PRESIDENT Mnangagwa has appointed Constitutional Court judge, Justice Elizabeth Gwaunza, as the country’s new Chief Justice, taking over from Chief Justice Luke Malaba, whose tenure ends at midnight.
In a statement today, Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Dr Martin Rushwaya, said President Mnangagwa has made the appointment in terms of Section 180(2) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe.
“Honourable (Justice) Elizabeth Gwaunza is qualified for the appointment, having served as the Deputy Chief Justice since March 29, 2018.”
Honourable Gwaunza will be deputised by Justice Paddington Garwe.
The appointments are effective tomorrow.
Today, a special court sitting was held at the Constitutional Court in honour of Chief Justice Malaba.
