FORGOTTEN former Dynamos hitman, Evans Gwekwerere, has signed a two-year contract with top Mozambican Premier League side Clube Ferroviario de Maputo.
Gwekwerere sought to revive his career in the neighbouring Mozambique where he joined Division One outfit Text Africa mid-last season. The controversial striker managed to net 15 goals out of the nine matches he featured for the Division One side and clinched the second tier league’s golden boot award.
Text Africa at the moment has no sponsorship after the sponsor they had in Division One dumped them for failing to gain promotion into the top-flight league which has 14 teams.
In an interview, Gwekwerere was very happy about signing a new contract and said he wants to be the top goal scorer in this coming season which will commence during the first week of March.
“I thank God for the opportunity he gave me to get a good contract with this team and I will work hard to bang in more goals this season. My goal is to be the top-goal scorer in the league.
I want to continue from where I left last season,” said the elated striker.
Clube Ferroviario de Maputo is one of the oldest and most supported clubs in Mozambique. It was formed in 1924 and finished on fifth position in the Mozambican top-flight league last season.
It has won their domestic league championship many times, the last being three years ago.
Earthquake, as he was fondly referred to by Dynamos supporters, announced his arrival into the domestic Premier league 13 years ago and has for South African clubs, Moroka Swallows and Jomo Cosmos.
On the domestic front, he also played for Caps United where he was expelled for disciplinary reasons in 2012.
After a largely unsuccessful stint south of the Limpopo, Gwekwerere decided to revive his career in Botswana where he had a stint with Mochudi Centre Chiefs.
He then returned home to join the now relegated police side Black Mambas where he failed to make any impact.
From Mambas, the 30-year-old striker signed a one-year contract with Mutare-based Army side, Buffaloes FC last year, but made a quick U-turn before he even featured in any match and crossed the border to Mozambique where he joined Text Africa, the Division One outfit.
