A POPULAR club DJ in Gweru allegedly plied two Regina Mundi High pupils with alcohol before raping one of them.
Tawanda Mupanemunda, 26, popularly known as DJ Mupsy of Mupsyville Entertainment, a Gweru-based recording company, appeared before magistrate Judith Taruvinga facing one count of rape.
He was not asked to plead and remanded out of custody to May13 for trial on $50 bail.
Mupanemunda is being represented by Tonderai Chitere of Chitere, Chidawanyika and Partners Legal Practitioners.
Prosecuting, Daniel Tafuma told the court that sometime last week, Mupanemunda was hired to perform at a school function where he later hooked up with the two girls before proceeding to his apartment.
Tafuma said the DJ hosted a party with the two girls in his apartment along Fifth Street in Gweru.
“While at the party Mupanemunda gave the teenagers alcohol and allegedly went on to rape one of the girls who is 14 years old,” said Tafuma.
He said the girl shouted for help but was overpowered by Mupanemunda who went on to hire a taxi to ferry the girl to her home after the alleged rape.
“The girl later reported the matter to her mother who then informed the police leading to the arrest of Mupanemunda,” said Tafuma.
Mupanemunda is contracted to perform at Gweru Bowling Club and Club Eclipse every weekend.
