A SOLDIER based in Plumtree allegedly stabbed his live-in girlfriend eight times with a knife leaving her severely wounded.
Melusi Ncube, 22, who is stationed at the 1.3 Infantry Battalion, appeared on initial remand before Plumtree magistrate, Gideon Ruvetsa facing assault charges.
He was remanded in custody to May 5.
Ncube’s girlfriend, Rosemary Dube, 34, was admitted at Plumtree District Hospital for five days following the attack.
Prosecuting, Elisha Mazorodze said Ncube arrived at his home in George Silundika area in Plumtree on April 25 at around 4AM.
The court heard that he was coming from a beer drink.
Mazorodze said the man started insulting and threatening to kill his girlfriend.
Dube fled the house when her lover became violent and only returned several hours later, the court heard.
Mazorodze said Ncube stabbed her for an unknown reason.
“Ncube arrived home from a drinking spree and he knocked on the bedroom window using a brick. He started shouting and threatening to kill his girlfriend if she refused to open the door for him.
“Dube opened the door and hid in the bathroom and then fled to a neighbour’s house. She then proceeded to make a report at the police station,” said Mazorodze.
He said at the police station, Dube reported that her boyfriend was abusive and the police advised her to proceed to court to seek a protection order against him.
The court heard that when Dube returned home, she discovered that her boyfriend had locked her out.
She persistently knocked on the door but Ncube threw a pot at her through the window forcing her to give up.
“The complainant then decided to go back to the police station around 8AM.
“On her way back, she met her boyfriend who was armed with a knife. Ncube charged at his girlfriend and stabbed her on the right hand, five times on the left hand and once on the head,” said Mazorodze.
He said Dube fled from her boyfriend who was threatening to kill her. The court heard that she was rescued by passersby and Ncube was immediately arrested.
