A 78-year-old man from Gweru allegedly died after heavy drinking, Midlands Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko has confirmed.

“Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms investigating a case of sudden death following the discovery of a dead body of a 78-year-old man outside his home in Section 7 Mtapa, Gweru. The incident occurred on 8 September 2025,” he said.

Insp Mahoko said allegations are that on September 7, the now deceased Sattulus Ncube went to Mboma Bar, about two kilometres from his house, for a beer drink.

“At about 8pm, his 40-year-old son, whom he stayed with, came to the bar, bought him scuds and gave him US$30,” he said.
Insp Mahoko said that at 10pm, Ncube was seen on the side of the road drunk and struggling to walk.

He said the following day, his body was discovered on the steps of the block of flats where he stayed.

“It was observed during Police scene attendance that the body had some froth coming out of the mouth and nose. Investigations are still underway,” said Insp Mahoko.
