ZIMBABWE squash sensation Ryan Gwidzima (pictured above) is back in the country and will be the major attraction at the Safeguard Zimbabwe Squash Open tournament on August 2 at Suburbs Squash Club, where his talent was nurtured.
Ryan (14) returned home from England last month after completing his primary education at Wycliffe College.
His father Langton, who coached him since he was four until he left for England in October last year said: “Hard work has kept Ryan’s dream of squash alive at a very young age. I’m happy that he (Ryan) also manages to balance his school work and sports and Wycliffe is an academic school where they have time for sport and academics as well,” Langton said.
Ryan has been representing Zimbabwe from the time when he was eight years old.
He has raised the country’s flag high winning a number of titles in England and Europe since he left.
He flies back to England in September to start his secondary education, where he will also participate in the Welsh and Hungarian Open competitions.
Langton has urged other children to pursue squash and encouraged parents to let their children take part in sport which could be a lifetime career.
Ryan’s move to Wycliffe College, one of the best squash schools in England, was facilitated by the Ryan Gwidzima Trust to make the squash protégé’s journey in the sport a success.
He is the reigning Zimbabwe’s Junior Sports Person of the year following his exploits at home, Africa and Europe.
