Gyan in fitness battle ahead of tourney

The Al Ain striker suffered an injury earlier in the UAE only days before Ghana were due to start camping in South Africa.
The player will undergo special treatment while in South Africa, but the head of Ghana’s football governing body says the player will be dropped if he does not make a full recovery.

“If Asamoah’s condition is such that he is not fit for the tournament, he would have to be replaced,” he told a local radio station.
Gyan will be treated — for a second degree hamstring injury — by a horse placenta specialist to be flown from Serbia, which will last from three weeks to a month.

“This position that I’m stating has been discussed with the technical team and everyone is aware of that but we are just hoping and praying he recovers,” said the FA boss.
