The six-day course was conducted by International Handball Federation instructor, Peter Kovac, who was assisted by Alphios Magiya and Liberty Maidza.
It attracted 66 coaches and only three coaches failed.
The course was focusing on the basics of handball.
ZHF president, Amon Madzvamuse, said the course was a success and will go a long way in the development of the sport.
“The participants got their certificates from the IHF international instructor. This did help our coaches in a big way, as they are now being recognised internationally. It’s a positive move. As ZHF we will make sure we help the coaches to contribute to the development of the sport. With this, we have equipped them and they now have the knowledge,” said Madzvamuse.
The ZHF president said they were hoping to get a grant from IHF that will benefit local coaches who want to form their own clubs.
“We are going to ensure that there is continuity especially in this particular way of equipping our coaches.
“We are communicating with the international federation and put everything on paper.
“We have been longing for this for a long time and we thought IHF were not recognising us but they proved that they do recognise what we are doing,” Madzvamuse said.
Speaking before his departure, Kovac encouraged the involvement of schools in developmen programmes.
“Continuity is very important. The coaches should go back and impart the knowledge.
“The children have to like handball first, they must not forget that it’s a game,” said Kovac.
Some of the successful participants are are Sipho Mahlangu from Matabeleland South, Farai Gwisai from Midlands, Bukhosi Maphosa of Bulawayo, Prince Chimonero of Masvingo, Eunice Muswazi from the Airforce and Allan Mandeya of Manicaland.
