Handcuffed woman attacks police officer

A DANGAMVURA woman recently compounded her woes by attacking a police officer who had arrested her for public drinking.

Martha Magara (26) of House Number 1976, Area 16, Dangamvura, appeared before senior Mutare magistrate Mrs Sekai Chiundura pleading not guilty to assaulting or resisting a peace officer as defined in Section 176 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9.23

Mr Donald Mudadirwa prosecuted.

“The complainant is Anna Munangwa (28), who is a police officer stationed at Dangamvura Police Station.

“The complainant was on duty on March 22 at around 10pm together with Constable Kanyongo when they went to Beta Shopping Centre where they arrested Martha for public drinking.

“She became violent, but they managed to handcuff her and dragged her to the police station.

“However, when they were at the police station, Martha turned and struck Cst Munangwa who was behind her on the cheek with her handcuffed hands.

“She sustained injuries and was medically examined and the medical report can be produced as exhibit in this court,” said Mr Mudadirwa.

The matter was adjourned to 8 April for trial.
