hold office for another four years while his lieutenant Silas Muringani was also re-elected to his post as secretary-general for the province.
Muringani also stood unopposed while Phineas Ziniwu is the vice-chairperson.
Clubs affiliated to HAB also elected Ambrose Chinyoka as the treasurer when he beat Iris Marisa on votes.
Leonorah Kandawasvika is the vice-secretary general after she edged Marisa and Fungai Gwekwerere.
Gwekwerere, however, found a place in the executive committee when she was elected as the women’s co-ordinator, beating Dadirayi Matya and Christine Makahamadze.
Respected coach and former Academy Stars coach Amon Nyaundi was unanimously given the post of coaches’ co-ordinator. Nyaundi is one of the highly qualified coaches in Zimbabwe with an International Association of Athletics Federation qualification.
Doesmatter Manyanga prevailed over John Longani Mlilo for the officials’ co-ordinators’ post while Rueben Bezvo and Dudzai Muhomba are the committee members.
A total of 10 candidates vied for the two posts with Bezvo getting 11 votes while Muhomba garnered nine votes.
Muringani, who is the spokesperson for the board, said they will be convening a meeting soon to prepare for the 2013 athletics season.
“We have just held our elections and we should be meeting soon as the executive committee to map the way forward. One of the things of our agenda would be to discuss the appointment of a patron for the next four years,” said Muringani.
Former Prince Edward High School head, Kevin Atkinson, served as patron for HAB in the last term and remains one of the candidates for consideration.
Atkinson is now at St John’s College.
“There are a couple of people we are targeting but we first have to approach them to see if it’s possible for them to become the patron before we make it public,” said Muringani.
HAB, will also discuss the National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe’s consolidated calendar.
NAAZ is now headed by Tendai Tagara who took over from Joseph Mungwari who had been at the helm of the sport for 14 years did not seek re-election last year.
