HAZ vice president Humphrey Chigwedere yesterday said they would continue to lobby for the repairs at Magamba, now that Khumalo in Bulawayo has been refurbished.
“We are going to push hard for the refurbishment of Magamba Hockey Stadium. Just like Khumalo, the refurbishment should be complete and will include changing the goalposts and the turf. If Magamba is refurbished, then we could push to host more international tournaments for field hockey,” said Chigwedere.
The water-based astro-turf at Magamba has been worn-out and the venue is now more popular for church services and musical shows than hockey.
After its refurbishment, Khumalo in Bulawayo hosted the African Cup of Club Championship in December last year.
Meanwhile HAZ have released a provisional calendar for their programmes in 2013. In the consolidated calendar, the indoor inter provincial tournament to be hosted by the Harare Hockey Board will be first major competition for the year.
“Our calendar is just a general guideline for the schools and the provinces to fit in although it’s subject to changes.
“In March we will have the inter pros for indoor, tentatively set for 9 and 10 and will be hosted by Harare. During the same month we will stage an Easter Tournament at Khumalo and Bulawayo Hockey Board are the hosts,” said Chigwedere.
The national league is set to run between April and September in Bulawayo and in the capital.
