Harare City Council is set to sign a twinning arrangement with a South Korean City, Cheonan that is expected to see the two parties strengthening co-operation in water and energy and fostering cultural and employee exchange programmes.A high-powered delegation from Cheonan was in Harare last week to finalise details of the arrangement.

Cheonan deputy Mayor Mr Byoung Wook Jun, led a delegation that visited Morton Jaffray Water Treatment Plant and the Firle Wastewater Plant.

The visit to the two plants was part of the assessment of the extent of cooperation that could exist in the water sector.

Harare has already sent delegations to Cheonan on cultural visits and employees on attachment.

Harare Mayor Councillor Bernard Manyenyeni said an agreement could not be signed last week because Cheonan mayor was not part of the delegation, which was hosted by the city last week.

“We had a delegation from Cheonan City in South Korea as part of our twinning intentions with that city. We could not sign the agreement because the mayor did not come, but we have already been doing exchanges.

“One of our officers Jackson Muzivi is on a six-month exchange there right now, our second such placement. We also had senior managerial and councillors exchanges in the past. It is promising to be a very practical twinning,” he said.
