HARARE City have moved swiftly to secure the FC Hunters franchise, finalising a deal valued at US$600 000.
The agreement was reached despite Hunters previously placing their franchise value at over US$1 million.
Several clubs showed interest, but the Marondera-based Hunters eventually found common ground with Harare City.
Under the agreed terms, Harare City will integrate selected members of the Hunters executive into their structures and absorb seven players who were still under contract at Hunters. The deal does not spell the end for the Hunters’ owners.
They are exploring ways to revive the club, either through entry into the Eastern Region Division 2 or by taking over Harare City’s current slot in the Northern Region Soccer League.
A source close to the negotiations told Zimpapers Sports Hub,
“The deal will be announced officially soon. I can confirm that the two clubs have agreed on principal terms.
“Chief among the negotiations was the welfare of the players who still have a running contract with FC Hunters.
Last year, MWOS acquired the ZPC Hwange franchise to make their top-flight debut, and Harare City appear to have followed a similar path as they position themselves to make a statement at the highest level. Harare City have failed to reclaim a top-flight ticket since their relegation at the end of the 2022 season.
