HARARE City have just one thing in their minds.
They want to snatch the 2025 Northern Region Soccer League title and spring back to the Premier Soccer League.
They know that’s easier said than done. The NRSL is not just unpredictable but it’s highly competitive. Its season bursts into life tomorrow and Harare City get straight on the road to try and squeeze a win at fellow favourites, Shamva Mine.
The Municipal side have done a lot of preparation and stuffing in the off-season.
They have gone for the tried and tested cadres right from the technical team where the man who penned Chegutu Pirates’ success story in 2023 Day Gutu takes the lead.
Gutu has grouped some profiled stars including his former personnel at Dzinza Gift Mwinga and Tafadzwa Jika as well as the ex-Herentals pair of goalkeeper Nevermind Antonio and Ali Maliselo as well as journeyman Rahman Kutsanzira.
Former Telone striker Lloyd Gwerina, Russel Chigura, who was at Yadah and Meke Meke who was with Dynamos have all joined the party.
And Gutu is cautiously confident of Harare City’s prospects.
“So far so good, we have done the preparations well as we managed to assemble a competitive outfit laden with talent and experience.
“The NRSL is not easy hence you need tried and tested players who can withstand the demands of the game and the environments that you will encounter when you go on away matches,” said Gutu.
“There is no easy team, almost everyone is going for the top gong except developmental sides. It’s a marathon so you need players who are mentally and physically strong
“The opening games are very important. Every point is key, and we need to be very careful. What we need is a result no matter the circumstances.”
Maliselo said the Harare City players have the right mentality going into the season and will not be broken down too easily as they chase after the championship.
Also tomorrow, N’ombeyaora, under the tutelage of experienced coach Nisbert Saruchera, kick off the season with a home match against Pam at Heart Stadium. − NRSL
