Muringapasi, said they have prepared adequately for the event and they hope to improve from last year’s outing.
“I think the team we have is good enough to leave an impact at this year’s event,” Muringapasi said.
“Last year we came third and with the way we prepared for the event we can do much better this year. The players are raring to go and they are looking forward to winning medals.
“We have worked hard to come up with the team and the best players remained in the 187 players who made it into the final.
“I believe we can improve from last year as there are some new players in the team and some are seasoned athletes which make the team even stronger.”
The guest of honour at the send-off ceremony, Officer Commanding Harare Province, Clemence Munoriyarwa, said the team will make the province proud by providing more players into the national team.
“I think this is the best team we have and they will do well in the week-long competition,” Munoriyarwa said.
“As a province we will continue to support you and it is through sport that you can remain physically fit. We will commit some resources to see that you are well catered for during the event.
“I believe our province will come out the winner at this year’s event and all of you have become useful assets of the force.
“The coaches and managers did a good job by building this team and training gives high morale for quality performance. To be selected to represent the province is a big step for every one of you here.”
The Police Commissioner’s Sports Gala will see 16 provinces taking part in various sporting disciplines from today to May 3.
The annual event will be used to select a team that will take part in the eighth edition of the Southern African Regional Police Chiefs Cooperation Organisation to be held in Windhoek, Namibia, later this year.
The players will take part in soccer for men and women, netball, volleyball, golf, weightlifting, darts, pool, rugby, table and lawn tennis, shooting, cricket, and angling.
