Hard work is the mantra at Bosso

HIGHLANDERS executive chairman Kenneth Mhlophe says the support from prominent businessman and philanthropist Wicknell Chivayo has injected fresh motivation into the club’s leadership and players as Bosso gear up for the 2026 season.

Mhlophe on Friday collected his brand-new 2026 Toyota Prado valued at US$125 000 from Faramatsi Motors, a gesture that forms part of a broader package of rewards extended to Highlanders FC officials and the technical team.

While the handover marked a significant personal moment for the chairman, he was quick to frame the development within the wider ambitions of the institution.

“This vehicle is more than just a car, it is a powerful symbol of Chivayo’s confidence in our leadership and his unwavering support for Highlanders FC.

“His continued commitment to the growth and success of this great institution does not go unnoticed. It inspires us to work even harder, to lead with integrity, and to ensure that Highlanders remains a source of pride for our supporters and our nation.

“We truly appreciate your generosity and your belief in our vision. May God bless you abundantly, and may God bless Highlanders FC,” said Mhlophe.

The Prado is part of a fleet of top-of-the-range vehicles donated by Chivayo after Highlanders’ 1-0 victory over Dynamos FC in the Jairos Jiri Charity Cup at Barbourfields Stadium a fortnight ago.

Highlanders coach Benjani Mwaruwari has been gifted a brand-new 2026 Ford Everest 3.0D L.E (Limited Edition) valued at US$92  000. Club board chairman Luke Mnkandla received a Toyota Fortuner 2.8 4×2 GD6 worth US$80 500, while chief executive officer Denzil Mnkandla and Highlanders Legends chairman Madinda Ndlovu received each Toyota Fortuners valued at US$72 500.

Beyond the vehicles, Chivayo has also disbursed the remaining US$500 000, part of the US$1 million he pledged last season further strengthening the club’s financial base ahead of the new campaign.

The financial and material backing comes at a time when Highlanders are intensifying preparations for the upcoming Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season. The team is currently in Botswana for a week-long pre-season training camp designed to improve fitness, tactical awareness and squad cohesion.
Speaking from the camp, Mwaruwari expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far.“The camp has gone well.

The morale in camp is high which is pleasing for a coach. We are working towards getting better and better every day,” said Mwaruwari.

Highlanders left the country on Wednesday for the camp, which is also providing an opportunity for the technical team to assess combinations and integrate players ahead of what is expected to be a competitive season.

Vice-captain Andrew Mbeba travelled with the squad despite that he is yet to sign a new contract. Defender Lawrence Mhlanga, midfielder Kuda Mahachi and goalkeeper Aaron Ngwenya who are also yet to put pen to paper were part of the travelling squad.
