He didn’t deserve it, Liverpool star Salah hits out at ‘harsh’ Trent boos

MOHAMED Salah has expressed disappointment over Liverpool fans’ decision to boo Trent Alexander-Arnold, following confirmation of his upcoming departure from Anfield.

Alexander-Arnold joined Liverpool’s academy at just six years old and has gone on to win a host of major honours, including the 2019 Uefa Champions League and two Premier League titles, since making his first team debut in 2016. Now, he is set to leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the season and is reportedly closing in on a move to La Liga giants, Real Madrid.

However, his relationship with the Anfield faithful has taken a hit since the announcement. He has faced heavy criticism on social media and was booed during Liverpool’s recent 2-2 home draw with Arsenal.

Andy Robertson condemned the boos in a post-match interview following that game, and Salah has now joined in defending his long time teammate, saying he was saddened by the fans’ reaction and believes Alexander-Arnold deserves more respect for his contributions to the club.

The Egypt international said:

“We always appreciate the people that come here, even for six months. Imagine someone who gave you his all for 20 years, it shouldn’t be like this.

“The fans were being harsh with him. I think he didn’t deserve it.

“He deserves to be treated in the best way possible because he gave everything to the fans.

“I was surprised, because it’s not how we react as Liverpool fans. We shouldn’t act this way with anyone.”

Salah, who has shared in much of Alexander-Arnold’s success and played a key role in Liverpool’s latest Premier League triumph, added that he hopes to see a more positive send off for the defender in the club’s penultimate league match of the season away to Brighton.

“I think he deserves the best farewell in leaving the club,” he continued, adding that he respects Alexander-Arnold’s decision.

“I’m not trying to convince him to stay, because I know 20 years at a club is not easy. — Reuters.
