Complicated dance moves, soothing videos and funny couple challenges. Of all the subcultures on Twitter, TikTok and Instagram, this is one of the most improbable — and riskiest — to emerge. But it’s a real and growing trend.
Netizens enjoy following their drama-filled lives, captivating looks, and the latest luxury cars that attract social media masses.
Many young people dream of becoming socialites and they all yearn for publicity, fame and expensive holiday destinations at all costs.
Social media has proven to be the most accessible route for Zimbabwean socialites to thrive, and with that, many young people want to hop on that bandwagon.
Looking at one entrepreneur and socialite who has made it, it’s safe to say having good looks and a nice car won’t always sell, but also being educated and focused.
Blessing “Father Abraham” Zhou is probably now one of the more famous socialites out of Bulawayo and is fairly well off as well.
He was born into a working-class family and came to prominence as a pioneer and visionary forex trader before slowly evolving into a socialite when his Zhou Forex Academy began to grow.
Zhou has eventually become a trendsetter which has since had many spin-offs. His stock keeps rising!
Bulawayo is finally becoming well-known for having the hottest socialites famous for fashion, beauty, and lavish lifestyles.
Despite socialites not having an outstanding reputation considering how society views them, some have managed to make a name for themselves and establish businesses.
He is the man who is one of the pioneers of the whole forex trade revolution in the country. He used different outrageous mechanisms to gain social media following, including holding free training for aspiring forex traders.
He wanted to be perfect for social media, which he achieved. After getting the followers he wanted, Zhou started doing adverts on his social media platforms.
He later established his name as a brand and started growing.
And he might not be the wealthiest in the pond, but he is successful in gaining attention from Zimbabwe and around the globe. Before his forex business and free training school grew, Zhou invested his time in growing his following more.
He had to feed his followers with useful tips showcasing his keen understanding of forex trading.
After gaining the following, he started doing social media advertising and within no time, he was the go-to guy in forex trading.
He started Zhou Group, which has gained traction over time.
Unlike many socialites, he has managed to keep himself from drama and maintained his standing as a reputable businessman and socialite.
He said that while many rich people were previously taught not to flaunt their money, today wealthy people can unashamedly “put all their jewellery on at once” and dress their children up in Dolce and Gabbana.
“Yesteryear, we were taught that if you have money you shouldn’t show it. You’re meant to turn your lights off at 7 pm and share a bath with your family.
Here you turn all your lights on and you put all your jewellery on at once. Any Bulawayo wealthy person was dressed conservatively, that’s just what we do.“
Today, they wear Dolce and Gabbana and so do their children. ZFA is doing something right the rest of the world hasn’t cottoned on to.
Described as “one of Bulawayo’s most successful influencers”, the socialite is working on growing Zhou Group and increasing the uptake of forex trading in Bulawayo and Zimbabwe.
Zhou, who grew up in Mpopoma, Bulawayo and comes from a working class, conservative family.
He graduated from the National University of Science and Technology before entering the public eye when he began his run in the forex trade world.
He says there is no reason why the family should not hire private nannies, chefs and cleaners among other staff — with Zhou joking: “I wouldn’t have had another child if there wasn’t going to be a nanny, there was always going to be a nanny!”
