THE Health Professions Authority Zimbabwe (HPA) has launched a crackdown on beauty and wellness facilities that are illegally offering medical services.
In a recent statement, HPA said non-medical personnel at these facilities are administering intravenous drips and injectables in clear violation of the Health Professions Act (Chapter 27:19) section 126.
The Act prohibits non-medical personnel from performing any act that falls under the scope of a registered medical profession.
In conjunction with the police, the HPA has begun shutting down facilities found to be violating the law, with some individuals facing legal action.
“The Health Professions Authority Zimbabwe has noted with concern that beauty and wellness facilities are offering beauty enhancements, services and skin treatments using procedures that are beyond their scope of operation, such as intravenous drips and infusions,” reads part of the statement.
“Currently, in conjunction with the police, HPA is closing facilities where non-medical personnel are carrying out procedures meant to be done by registered medical professionals while the responsible individuals are facing the wrath of the law.”
