Health workers receive maize meal

HEALTH workers in Harare have received 60 tonnes of subsidised roller meal from the Grain Millers Association of Zimbabwe (GMAZ), as an appreciation of the role they are playing from the frontline in the fight against Covid-19.

The disbursement was done last Friday.

Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals, Sally Mugabe Central Hospital and Chitungwiza Central Hospital, received 20 tonnes of maize meal each.

Other health workers at some institutions are expected to receive their allocations this week.

Speaking during the handover ceremony at Parirenyatwa’s Psychiatric Department, GMAZ deputy chairman Mr Chipo Nheta said the distribution of maize meal was in agreement with Government to help all health workers who are at the forefront in the battle against Covid-19.

“We have embarked on a national programme to assist the nurses after we were approached by their leadership,” said Mr Nheta.

After being approached, GMAZ took the request to the Ministry of Industry and Commerce.

Industry and Commerce Minister Dr Sekai Nzenza approved the request, which then saw GMAZ rolling out the distribution, starting with Bulawayo.

Mr Nheta said more hospitals were lined up to get their allocations to support “nurses who continue serving the Covid-19 requirements”.

President of the Health Apex Council, Mr Enock Dongo, thanked Government for accepting their request that health workers be provided with the subsidised roller meal.
