Helemu Primary School gets lifeline with solar-powered borehole donation

Sikhumbuzo Moyo

THE Crossborders4ED Association has donated a solar-powered borehole and Starlink equipment to Helemu Primary School in Njube suburb, Bulawayo, with the association also undertaking to meet the borehole drilling cost requirements.

The donation was announced by the association’s Bulawayo chairperson Mr Pride Mapurisa, during the Presidential Revolving Fund disbursement function held at a local hotel on Saturday, that was also attended by its national chairperson Mr Deft Masomere and Zanu-PF national chairperson Cde Jabulani Sibanda who was the guest of honour.

“It’s always our desire to assist communities where our members come from so when we received a request from the School Development Committee’s vice chairperson, Mrs Shelly Nkomo, who is also our member, we did not hesitate to assist.

The borehole is part of the 10 that we were given as an association from the 100 that were handed over under the Presidential Borehole Scheme,” said Mr Masomere.

He confirmed that the costs of drilling will be met by his association, as the school might be financially unable to meet the costs.

“Fortunately, the drilling rig from the Presidential Advisor Dr Paul Tungwarara is here in Bulawayo, which makes those logistics easier,” said Mr Mapurisa.
SDC vice chairperson Mrs Nkomo said the school was excited and thankful for the kind gesture extended by the association.

“On behalf of the parents I want to thank the association for hearing our request as it has taken a load of burden from us. We have a number of things that we need as a school and this donation has really gone a long way. We will have a grand ceremony where all parents will come and witness the drilling moment,” said Mrs Nkomo.
