NEXT week, Mutare will open its doors to global visitors as it hosts the Sanganai/Hlanganani/Kumbanayi World Tourism Expo – showcasing the Eastern Highlands’ stunning natural beauty.
As summer reaches its peak, the province’s picturesque landscapes, rivers, waterfalls, and forests invite exploration.
The Eastern Highlands offers an ideal setting for water enthusiasts, with refreshing swims, soothing waterfalls, and serene riverside picnics.
Each waterfall, from Nyanga’s misty peaks to Vumba and Chimanimani’s enchanted valleys, boasts a unique story of power, beauty, and tranquility.
This scenic province has long been a haven for those seeking peace, adventure, and a deep connection with nature.
The Eastern Highlands caters for diverse interests – adventurers can enjoy trails, ziplines, and skywalks; romantics can bask in the misty falls and lush forests; and families can relish natural pools and picnic sites, while wellness seekers can benefit from the soothing power of water – nature’s own hydrotherapy.
As the world converges in Mutare for the Expo, the Eastern Highlands is poised to unveil its treasures.
For travellers, the region’s stunning waterfalls are a must-see. But it is the peace, adventure, and lasting memories that will make them want to stay.
Chinamata Falls: A Hidden Gem
Located just 30km from Mutare-Chinamata Falls lies nestled in the heart of the Vumba Mountains.
The journey to the falls is an experience in itself – winding paths weave through fragrant wildflowers and whispering forests, culminating in a breathtaking cascade that plunges into crystal-clear pools.
As you behold the sight of white water framed by emerald foliage, one will feel as though they have stepped into a living painting masterpiece.
Nyachowa Falls
Only 12km from Mutare, along the Chigodora Road, Nyachowa is one of Vumba’s most visited waterfalls — and the second largest in Manicaland, after Mutarazi Falls. The short 600-metre walk to the site takes you past striking rock formations before the sound of crashing water welcomes you. Its sheer force and beauty make it a must-see on any Vumba itinerary.
Marindi Falls
A rising star among Vumba’s attractions, Marindi Falls has gained attention for its steady flow, serene pools, and lush surroundings.
Ideal for picnics and photography, this waterfall offers a tranquil retreat for families, adventurers, and nature lovers alike.
Excelsior Falls
For those who crave solitude, Excelsior Falls offers a sanctuary untouched by crowds.
Hidden deep in the Vumba, this little-explored site is a soul-stirring escape where the only sounds are birdsong, rushing water, and the rustling breeze.
A perfect spot for reflection and intimate encounters with nature.
Nyangombe Falls
Just 12km from Nyanga, Nyangombe Falls is one of the region’s most beloved gems. Its wide curtain of water cascades into a natural swimming pool and sandy area affectionately known as Brighton Beach.

Here, visitors can take a dip, lounge on the sand, or simply enjoy the symphony of water and birdsong.
Nyakupinga Falls
Only 2,7 km from Nyanga Holiday Homes, Nyakupinga offers a mix of rocky cascades and a natural pool — nicknamed the “little Devil’s Pool.”
For those seeking adventure, this waterfall provides both refreshing swims and stunning photo opportunities.
Pungwe Falls
Overlooking Honde Valley, Pungwe Falls is a dramatic spectacle, plunging 240 metres into a densely wooded gorge. A guided visit is recommended for safety, but the reward is breathtaking – tier upon tier of foaming cascades thundering into the valley below.
Mutarazi Falls
Crowning Nyanga’s attractions is Mutarazi Falls, Zimbabwe’s highest at 772 metres and Africa’s second tallest.

The sight of water gliding endlessly into the abyss is both soothing and awe-inspiring.
For thrill-seekers, the Skywalk — two suspended bridges above the gorge — and the zipline offer heart-pounding adventures with unmatched views.
Tessa’s Pool
Nestled 5km from Chimanimani Tourism Village, Tessa’s Pool is a natural sanctuary surrounded by rugged peaks and vibrant greenery. Whether you dip your toes in its cool waters, picnic by its edge, or explore nearby trails, this hidden gem promises serenity and renewal.
Bridal Veil Falls
Chimanimani’s highest waterfall, Bridal Veil, is a vision of elegance as it spills like a veil over a rocky cliff. Located within Chimanimani National Park, just 4km from the tourism village, it is perfect for picnics, photography, and quiet reflection. A gazebo nearby provides shelter, making it an all-weather destination.
