Herd man up for stock theft

Crime Reporter

A 37-year-old man who was employed as a herd man in Darwendale has been arrested on allegations of stealing a beast worth US$400 from his employer before slaughtering it.
Ivor Butau (37) from Shirliegh Farm in Darwendale has since appeared before the Chinhoyi Magistrates Court facing stock theft charges and was remanded in custody.

Allegations are that sometime in September 2024, Butau took advantage of the absence of his employer and stole a black and brown bull, which he slaughtered.

He then took the meat to Shirleigh Farm Compound in Darwendale, where he began selling it.

On September 28, 2024, police received information on the matter and they went to the home of Butau’s mother where they recovered a carcass, which was stored in a refrigerator.

Butau was then arrested.
