A HERDBOY who earns $89 per month has been ordered to pay $150 monthly maintenance for the upkeep of his three children after having initially offered to pay only $10.
Ephraim Midzi was yesterday dragged to the Maintenance Court by his ex-wife Edina who was demanding $400 for the upkeep of the couple’s three children aged 16, 14, and three years.
Midzi said he can supplement his salary through menial jobs to earn up to $150 a month.
Edina told the court Magistrate Elizabeth Magomere that she wanted $400 each month to cover school fees, food and clothing for the three children.
She said she also wanted part of the money to pay a maid to take care of the children in her absence since she is a cross border trader who is on the road most of the time.
Midzi said he was a herdboy and is married to another woman.
He said he has two other children as such he was in a position to pay $10 per month as maintenance.
“I’m a cattle herder who earns $89 per month, and married to another woman with two kids, they all need my support, so Edina should consider that,” said Midzi.
He said Edina should also contribute towards the upkeep of their children.
Magistrate Magomere ordered Midzi to pay $150 monthly for the upkeep of his three children with effect from May 31 this year.
