Preparations for Heroes’ and Defence Forces’ Day celebrations in Midlands are at an advanced stage. In an interview, Midlands Provincial Affairs Minister Owen Ncube said all has been set. “Preparations for this year’s celebrations of Heroes’ and Defence Forces’ days are going very well and at an advanced stage,” he said.
“We will have Heroes’ Day celebrations at the Provincial Heroes Acre while Defence Forces’ Day celebrations will be held at Mkoba Stadium.”
He urged people from all districts of the province to come out in their numbers and celebrate the two days.
“We are urging people from all corners from Midlands Province to come out in their numbers regardless of their political affiliation.
“This is a national event and we must unite and celebrate it together as Zimbabweans. We expect people from across the political divide to be present because we are all beneficiaries of these sacrifices.
“People should come and celebrate this day because the freedom that we have today came from the freedom fighters.
“We hope people will come in thousands to give respect to the gallant sons and daughters of this country who sacrificed their lives to liberate us.
“It is also a good opportunity for the youths to attend the event and draw wise counsel from President Mnangagwa’s speech,” he said.
Minister Ncube said the organising committee had its final meeting on Monday to finalise all outstanding issues.
“The organising team has finalised all logistics.
“They met on Monday to tie up the loose ends, which might have been overlooked. So we can safely say that all has been set.”
The province has 176 heroes buried at the Provincial Heroes Acre.
