HIFA theatre season opens tomorrow

Harare International Festival of the Arts will host a festival dubbed Harare Theatre Season from tomorrow to May 15 at Reps Theatre. The festival comes barely a week after the successful hosting of the recent CABS Classical Music Celebration event. Portuguese band HMB will open the Harare Theatre Season and HIFA will be supported by DANIDA and the Embassy of Portugal celebrating of all types of theatre, including physical storytelling, spoken word, dance theatre, satire and comedy.

“This unprecedented Harare event is an invitation to experience the work of local and visiting artists, to stretch your mind, embark on artistic journeys, and challenge your preconceptions and exchange ideas with artists and audience members,” noted organisers in a statement.

“The event will take place at Reps Theatre and we are delighted to partner with Reps on this event. T

he Harare Theatre Season is an immersive weekend of performances, food, wine, conversation, dance and inspiration.

“Plays from Zimbabwean artists and visiting artists will anchor the event. HIFA will be featuring multiple genres throughout the year even at events focusing on one main genre.

Music will also be present at the event with the Portuguese band HMB performing at Reps Theatre on May 12 at 7pm as the Season’s opening show.

“Tickets are on sale at the Spotlight at Reps Theatre from May 7 and throughout the mini-festival. HIFA took time out to reinvent itself this year as it gears up for the 2017 edition.”

HIFA highlighted five new areas of programming, which have been will be rolled out until December to temporarily replace the traditional six-day festival.
