HIGHLANDERS Royals moved off the basement of the Zimbabwe Women’s Premier Soccer League with a deserved 2-0 win over Maningi Youth Soccer Academy at the Heart Stadium on Saturday.
The win, saw them end a two-match losing streak.
Highlanders Royals’ breakthrough came just after halftime courtesy of Diana Nyika who scored their first goal.
Juliet Tafataona doubled the Royals lead with another goal after 66 minutes.
Once the national champions at the birth of the sport in the late 1980s and early 1990s, the Royals have been a shadow of the team that once boasted Samukeliso Mahlangu, Bridget Zimunya, Fungai and Judith Chiradza, Sikhangele Sibanda and Suku Dube that was drubbing all before it.
It has like some of the poorly sponsored teams in the league struggled for breath.
Royals were desperate for a win and this should boost their morale going forward having lost their opening match to Mposa Academy 2-1 and 3-0 to FC Platinum Royals.
Meanwhile the Chapungu Queens remain unbeaten and lead the log table.
