Two die in police chase accident

Tragedy struck in Gweru on Monday, as two passengers lost their lives instantly when their vehicle collided with a tree.

This unfortunate incident occurred after the driver reportedly lost control while allegedly fleeing from the police.

The accident took place around 10:30 PM on Monday night along Bristol Road in the Mkoba 11 suburb.

In a statement, National Police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said police investigations were underway.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms that investigations are being conducted in connection with a fatal road traffic accident which occurred along Bristol road on 28th April 2025 at around 2230 hours where two Toyota Aqua occupants died on the spot when their vehicle hit a tree in a speed chase with Constable Sakala of ZRP Mkoba,” he said.

Comm Nyathi said the police has taken note of the videos circulating on social media platforms in relation to the accident.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police reiterates that both criminal and disciplinary action will be taken on Constable Sakala for his conduct,” he said.
