Hip-hop artiste Mhlanga looks to make impact

Mhlanga, who goes by the stage name MozR, is a second year Media Studies student at Boston Media House who left the country after the completion of his A-Levels in 2009.

In an interview recently, Mhlanga said he had been involved in a number of projects he hoped would prove an adequate launch pad for his career which is still in its infancy.

“I have been releasing tracks online which people have been downloading for free and I also have a video out for a track titled Hello which I did with another artist called Prime,” said Mhlanga.

Mhlanga said that he had lined up a mix tape titled Day and Night Fantasies although he had not settled on a release date for the project yet.

“People should look out for this mix tape because it will have some hard-hitting tracks.

Although I am yet to decide on a release date for the project, people should watch out for the first single off the mix tape titled Watch the Space,” said Mhlanga.

He said he had featured a lot of works by other artistes with one of the tracks that he featured on getting airplay on popular South African radio station Lesedi Fm.

“I featured on a kwaito house track by Storm boy called Bar 9 which has been doing the rounds on Lesedi Fm while I also feature a lot of other up-and- coming artistes in my own work,” said Mhlanga.

He said he was looking to emulate other great hip-hop artistes like Kanye West and Dr Dre as he not only rapped but was now producing beats for himself and other artistes as well.

“I now rap to my own beats as well while I also give them to other people to use as well, but right now I am fighting for my mix tape to get airplay soon as it is released,” he said.

Mhlanga said he was trying by all means to strike a balance between his music and his studies as he believed having a decent education would help in his decision making in the music business.
