THE Chibuku Road To Fame talent search show will for the first time allow entries from budding Hip Hop and Zimdancehall artists.
Over the years, the competition only entertained entries from sungura and Afro fusion but, this year, organisers say they want to explore other options and grow the competition to a larger audience.
Dubbed “Jambisa Asingajambe, Vusa Abalele”, this year’s edition will run from August 6 to October 1.
“Chibuku Road to Fame is back but we have not been able to run it due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This year we will see a shift in the original concept, as we include other genres such as Hip Hop and Zimdancehall.
“This marks an expansion and shift due to the changes in the music space and emergence of genres,” said Delta Corporation, general manager corporate affairs, Patricia Murambinda.
Murambinda said they remain committed to identifying untapped talent in the country.
“Through working closely with our partners, the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe, Chibuku Road to Fame aims to identify and nurture the artists as they launch musical careers.
“We are offering monetary prizes at both the provincial and national finals, with the overall winner walking away with both a cash prize as well as a recording contract,” said Murambinda.
The finals will held in Harare after a countrywide search in all the 10 provinces.
Willing candidates are advised to register their bands with Nation Arts Council of Zimbabwe in order to be considered in the competition. Over the years, the competition has churned out stars, including sungura musician Romeo Gasa, The Travellers, Adequate Sounds and Identity, who are all doing well in local music circles.
