Hip-hop Battle of the Year postponed

The competition, organised by the Jibilika Dance Trust, whose mission is to promote dance among the youth, brings out the cream in hip-hop dance in the country every year to compete for the honour of being the nation’s best dance crew.

Founder and director of the Jibilika Dance Trust, Plot Mhako said they were working on getting adequate sponsorship for the event because they wanted to create a lasting impression not only on the minds of the audience, but also on the winners of the competition.

“We want to make sure we get the right prizes. Most shows have disappointed in the past of which we have had our fair share but we are committed to changing the game,” he said.

Mhako said they also postponed the event because they wanted to get credible judges who would leave the outcome of the competition beyond doubt.

“We want to have an event that is fantastic and credible, hence we are looking to get a foreign judge for this year’s event,” he said.

Bulawayo’s hip-hop dance kings, AntiVirus dance crew, who will be participating in the competition for the first time, will represent the City of Kings in an effort to bring the crown to the city.

In an interview recently, crew member Prince Dube said the crew promised to bring out the best from their vast array of dance skills and represent Bulawayo in a way that will make the city proud.

“People can anticipate fireworks during our show as we plan on giving our best as one of the premier dance crews in the city,” he said.

Dube said they would be using the show to silence all the critics and dance groups disputing their reign as a supreme dance crew.

“We have been quiet, but that is only due to the fact that we believe our dancing speaks louder than mere words and Battle of the Year will bear testimony to that,” he said.
