A BULAWAYO man met a chilling end in a suspected hit-and-run incident along Intemba Road in Luveve, sparking a full-blown police hunt for the unknown motorist who left the scene without rendering aid.
The tragic incident occurred on Sunday evening near an open space between Chigumira Shops and Thembiso dura wall, where the lifeless body of a man, believed to be around 30 years old, was found sprawled on the road.
According to Bulawayo provincial deputy police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Thandekile Ndlovu, the man was dressed in a brown work suit bottom and blue track jacket, and had suffered fatal head injuries consistent with a high-impact collision.
“Police received a case of fatal Road Traffic Accident which occurred along Intemba Road at an open space between Chigumira Shops and Thembiso dura wall, Luveve, Bulawayo where one pedestrian was killed,” said Ndlovu.
Initial indications suggest the driver was travelling due north when the deadly incident occurred.
“There were some faint skid marks on the left side of the road. He then hit the deceased and did not stop,” she said.
The man died on the spot and his body was ferried to United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) Mortuary for a post-mortem.
Police say the driver did not attempt to stop, rendering the incident a criminal hit-and-run.
“We appeal to anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of the accused person to report at any nearest police station,” said Asst Insp Ndlovu.
The police have opened an investigation and are urging motorists to exercise caution, and for the public to come forward with any information that could crack the case.
