“The public sector plays a central role in the multi-sectoral response to HIV and Aids in reducing stigma promoting prevention and in providing access to treatment, care and support for its members,” said Dr Ndhlukula.
“Permanent secretaries are the custodians of the HIV and Aids workplace programme that guides HIV and Aids activities in all Government ministries. The Government ministries must have an HIV and Aids focal person at the level of human resources director who is responsible for the co-ordination of their ministry’s HIV and Aids workplace activities.”
Dr Ndhlukula said Government had set aside a budget allocation for all line ministries to carry out a programme to combat the pandemic. Dr Ndhlukula said the success of the Public Service HIV and Aids Workplace Programme would assist in the fight against the pandemic. Speaking at the same event, National Aids Council chief executive officer Dr Tapiwa Magure, said they had targeted permanent secretaries and principal directors as they hold important offices.
He said after engaging parliamentarians on HIV/Aids issues, NAC would soon engage other senior Government officials.
