SPORT and Recreation Minister Makhosini Hlongwane yesterday applauded Dynamos Harare Metropolitan Supporters Association for donating groceries and clothing to Makumbe Mission Children’s home saying they contributed to the uplifting of the vulnerable children. Hlongwane, who was guest of honour when the supporters donated groceries, said the gesture would go a big way to dispel the perception that football is associated with hooliganism and violence. “The Zimbabwe Government, as always, condemns hooliganism and violence in sport and we call upon you supporters to compliment this cause.

“Your role as the twelfth player is crucial and your loyalty to Dynamos Football Club is important, as you have managed to uphold the brand of the club through contributing towards the need of the less privileged through sport,” said Hlongwane. He said the donation was a contribution in promoting a conducive learning environment for the children. “The donation is intended to ensure that management of Makumbe Children’s Home identifies and nurtures the sporting talent residing within these children. “Indeed, we are grateful for this kind of gesture which is unique in that it is coming from football supporters in particular, the Harare Metropolitan Dynamos Football Club Supporters Association,” said Hlongwane.

Harare Metropolitan Dynamos Football Club Supporters Association chairman Thulani Ncube said he felt proud of his fellow supporters since they had to use their own money to come up with the groceries and clothing.

“I’m pleased that we managed to raise groceries and clothes on our own in this harsh economic environment and we promise to come back in December this year with another donation,” said Ncube.
