A HARARE man turned his marriage into a horror show when he savagely attacked his wife with a hoe — leaving her with a gruesome face wound in a Christmas Eve bloodbath that’s landed him 16 months behind bars.
The Harare Magistrates’ Court heard how the 50-year-old brute returned from his second wife’s house in Eastview and started weeding the yard.
In an inexplicable rage, he ordered his first wife away when she tried to help.
The man swung the hoe at her face — slicing her nose open
“She was lucky to survive,” said Prosecutor, Tariro Muchena.
One inch higher and she could have lost an eye — or her life.”
While the 36-month sentence sounds tough, the Eastview attacker will only serve 16 effective months after 20 were suspended on a 5-year good behaviour bond.
Magistrate, Tendai Mahwe warned: “One more violent act and you’ll finish the full term behind bars.”
This case comes as Zimbabwe reports a 48 percent spike in GBV cases during 2024 holidays (Musasa Project) and 1 in 3 women experience partner violence (ZimStats 2024).
