wondering on what to do with your time. The following is a list of activities you could do with your time.
Get a Driver’s Licence
By the way this applies to both boys and girls. A lot of times girls do not worry about getting a driver’s licence because they think that this is for the boys. That is not true. Even if you don’t have a car at home just go on and get a licence. This is just one of the ways to add value to your curriculum vitae. Some people failed to get jobs simply because they did not have a licence. Don’t be one of them! Get it while you still have time at your hands and not because you are under pressure to get one for your job.
Look for a job
As much as we all know that we have a high unemployment rate in Zimbabwe it is also true to say that there are opportunities for those who seek them well to find a job. Look for places that need basic employment requirements like Ordinary Levels. Restaurants, food outlets, supermarkets and other places of service might easily give a school leaver a job. It will be also easier to find a job now because we are in the festive season and business is usually at peak in such places. They will need extra hands.
The job will keep you occupied, give you a feel of the working world and also help you earn a few extra dollars.
Join a Society or Club
There are a lot of societies or clubs out there that have programmes or activities that appeal to your interests. Look around for a club that is doing something on your interests, knock on their doors and enquire on how you can be a member of such groups.
Being part of a club or society comes with a lot of advantages, most of them not tangible but very valuable. A lot of the young people do not know how to network and get in social circles. Being a part of a club could be the first move towards growing your social circles. The good thing about using societies and club platform is that it is a safe environment to network with relevant people of like interests. Some of the clubs and societies to consider are Toastmasters, JCI (Junior Chambers International) and many others. Just ask around for a society that fits your needs and interests.
Learn a new skill or practice
You have always had things that you felt you wanted to do but never had the time for it because of school engagements. Now is the time to do it. For some of you it might have been learning a new musical instrument, learning a new sport like cricket, learning how to dance, learning to cook and so many other things that you might have wanted to try your hand on. Give it a try, go ahead find someone who will be able to teach you that new skill and enjoy learning it. Who knows if you fail to learn it now then you might never get a chance to learn that again. Learning these new skills will enhance your value.
Find time with yourself
Well in order of priority this should have come first. A lot of people are always in conversations with other people and never with their self. They hardly get time with themselves alone to reflect and plan their life. So many times there are people who spend all their time in the company of others, from the time they wake up right to the time they jump back into bed again. They hardly even know themselves. Take this time to know yourself better, to reflect on the road you have travelled so far, to plan for the long journey just ahead and to just better understand yourself. Don’t be caught in the trap of living day in and day out in social networks and immersed in the company of other people without enjoying your own company.
Hoping that these tips will be good enough to help you plan well around your long holiday.
Till next week guys, God bless you all.
Ciao…
