matter of whole body health.
So this week let us go skin deep and look at this biggest organ in our body. Yes the skin is not just an outer cover for other body parts but an organ in its own right. It helps us to maintain our body temperature and fluids. The skin is also a barrier against infections. So taking care of your skin is not just about looking good, but about being in the best health.
The beauty of the skin is not seen in its colour but in the texture. A healthy skin should be clear of pimples, rashes or any other infections. It should not be dry and flaking.
In previous articles we have looked at some of the ways to deal with acne which is a nightmare for many teens.
But this time we are looking at taking care of the outside from the inside.
You are what you eat and for many teens this is especially true for your skin. Greasy foods like fried chips and chicken as well as too much sugar can make your skin oily. Fresh vegetables and lots of water is what the doctor ordered. Remember that most drinks available contain sugar and caffeine, which are bad for the skin.
Speaking of water you also need to bath at least once a day. The dirt and oils that pile up on the skin during the day create a film on your skin. If you do not wash this away it may lead to pimples and other unpleasant infections.
We need exercise to stay fit and to control our health. This need not be boring and painful. Try something cool like playing ball with your friends while just hanging out. You will not only be doing good things for your social life, but for your heart, lungs and skin too.
You hear people talking of beauty sleep and you might wonder what they mean. Studies have established that when you get at least eight hours of sleep per day, your brain will work better and your skin will also look good. Otherwise you get bruises around your eyes like you were in a fight.
Finally, summer means lots and lost of sunshine which is all good. But you need to avoid being exposed to direct sunlight during the hottest part of the day. That is generally between 10 in the morning and three in the afternoon. The sun’s rays are believed to cause cancer and anyway sunburn is painful and it definitely does not look good.
If you must be out at this time then wear a hat and try to get a sunscreen lotion for the exposed parts of your skin. Stay healthy and wear a stylishly beautiful skin this summer.
