HOLY BOOK HILARITY: Langa Ndimande flips Bible stories with a Kasi twist

HIP-Hop fanatic and socialite Langa Ndimande is a man of many faces. He can pull any card and fit in properly in that particular game.

From all his shenanigans — like being opinionated, radical and controversial on social media, the Cowdray Park-bred creative has pulled a fresh stunt, as he has introduced himself to the comedy world by re-imagining Biblical stories, giving them a comic flair.

So far, he has done and released stories based on Adam and Eve’s Garden of Eden scenario, Jesus’ parents Joseph and Mary, Moses separating the sea with a rod, Abraham sacrificing his one and only son Isaac, as well as Lazarus rising from the dead.

Ndimande said doing these skits for social media started as a joke.

“I started the idea of re-telling these stories for a fresh audience when I was with a friend and we were talking about how funny it would be if a guy from eKasi had attended the wedding where Jesus turned water into wine. From that moment I did that video and I liked it.

“I also did this after realising that as Zimbabweans, at some point we have been exposed to the Bible, but it usually seems more fictional because we are just familiar with the places and characters.

“With these videos, I try to localise the stories by giving it a bit of a Kasi feel, for it to appeal to the next person, but still maintaining the same message and structure,” said Ndimande.

His fans on social media are buying into his story and ideas, as they love his content.

“All the videos I have done have given me over three million views across different platforms and my following is growing day by day. I don’t take these numbers as a joke. Considering the time frame I started doing these skits, the number of people supporting me is overwhelming,” he said.

As a devoted Christian, Ndimande said when crafting his jokes, he tries by all means to stay away from offensive jokes that might cause harm towards his religion.

“Before I shoot and release my content, it goes through so much consideration and filtering, because I always want to dish out clean content. This process also separates blasphemy from genuine creativity that can be consumed by anyone,” he said.

To further his content viewership, Ndimande said he has started streaming his creations on Twitch, a platform where content creators and streamers broadcast their activities in real-time.
