A WOMAN, who has been living in the open for the past seven days in Mt Pleasant, Harare, says her daughters are now being targeted by predators who want to sexually abuse them.
Nyarai Dimingo, 39, says she was left homeless after her employer sold his Westgate house, where she had worked as a caretaker since 2012.
Dimingo’s four children – aged 8, 11, 13 and 19 – have not been going to school since 2024.
She said the youngest is a boy while the other three are girls.
The girls have been living under the constant threat from drunken youths and some grown-up men who are targeting them for sex.
“During the night, drunken street kids and some men have been threatening the girls,” said Dimingo.
“They offer them money, not for help, but in exchange for sexual favours.”
Residents with houses near the shopping centre told H-Metro that the men wanted to exploit the girls.
When H-Metro visited the spot near the Mt Pleasant Post Office open area, Dimingo confirmed that her family’s situation has become increasingly dangerous in recent days.
She said she separated from her husband, Nolan Eleven, in 2019.
For years, they both worked in Westgate where she was a housemaid and he was a gardener.
“By the end of June the house was sold because the owner is based outside the country.
“I left Westgate with a few belongings, including one blanket, and we have been sleeping outside.
“We moved to Mt Pleasant Post Office because the street kids started to torment us during the night.
“Drunkards are also making our lives unbearable. We are now relying on well-wishers for food,” Dimingo said.
She added:
“I am prepared to work as a housemaid or any other job, including till operator. I have a national identity, so do my children.
“My children have not been going to school for some time and we need help.”
