THE Holy Book clearly says “honour thy father and thy mother,” but Mncedisi Dube (49) from Plumtree decided to write his own chapter — with a wooden stool as the pen.
In a drama that has stunned Mayobodo villagers, Dube appeared before Plumtree magistrate Joshua Nembaware this week and was sentenced to 18 months in prison, with six months suspended for five years if he stays out of trouble. The rest was suspended on condition he completes 210 hours of community service at Hobodo Clinic in 12 weeks.
Prosecutor Sheila Nyathi told the court that on 28 December 2025, around 10AM, Dube and his 73-year-old father, Vusumuzi, were at the homestead discussing family matters.
The father, performing classic dad duties, told his son to caution his wife from disrespecting him.
Apparently, this was too much advice for Mncedisi to handle.
Angered beyond reason, he grabbed a stool and smacked his father square on the left jaw. The assault left Vusumuzi with a cut and a swollen jaw and sent him straight to Brunapeg Hospital for treatment.
The complainant reported the incident to police, leading to Mncedisi’s arrest and the court drama that followed.
From calm family advice to flying furniture frenzy, the case has left everyone in Mayobodo shaking their heads, laughing nervously, and double-checking their own chairs.
Apparently, when Mncedisi heard “honour thy father,” he didn’t read the fine print about avoiding weapons.
