TWO Madlambudzi men who thought they could get away with a late-night braai using stolen meat are now chewing jail bars instead!
Self Ndebele (34) and Prince Phiri (24) have been thrown behind bars and remanded in custody to June 30 by Plumtree magistrate Joshua Nembaware after they were caught red-handed butchering a stolen goat.
The pair allegedly crept into Morris Mpofu’s homestead on the night of June 14 around 8pm. Court papers reveal Phiri jumped into the goat pen and handed over the prized beast to Ndebele who was waiting outside. The duo took the goat to
Ndebele’s place, where they slaughtered it.
But their meaty mission was short-lived. A sharp-eyed villager who spotted unfamiliar footprints leading from Mpofu’s kraal straight to Ndebele’s home tipped off the owner. The tracks led police straight to the scene — where the accused were reportedly still in the process of slicing up their loot.
The pair pleaded guilty and now face the music as prosecutor Voster Makuwerere pushes for justice in the R850 livestock heist.
Their next dance with the law is set for 30 June.
