QUEENS Sports Club turned into a Proteas playground as South Africa’s young guns, Lhuan-dre Pretorious and Dewald Brevis, launched a fearless counterattack to wrestle control in the first Test against Zimbabwe.
At tea on day one, the World Test Championship kings were cruising at 248/6, thanks to a dominant second session where they added 158 runs for the loss of just two wickets.

Making his Test debut, Pretorious was the star of the show, smashing his maiden ton in style off just 112 balls. The 19-year-old sensation went into the break unbeaten on 128 off 144 deliveries, with Corbin Bosch keeping him company on 22 off 48.

The duo came in with the Proteas under pressure at 90/4, but their aggressive strokeplay turned the tide. Brevis, another debutant, put on a show with a quick-fire 51 off 41 balls before he was caught by Tanaka Chivanga off the bowling of Blessing Muzarabani.

The only other casualty of the session was Kyle Verreynne, who edged one to first slip off Wellington Masakadza for 10.
While the Chevrons started strong in the morning, the afternoon belonged to the fearless rookies, with Zimbabwe now desperate for a breakthrough after tea to claw back into the match.

The battle is heating up at Queens — and it’s only day one!
