An  elderly man who was thrown out of a third-floor apartment by a suspected sex worker in the Avenues area of Harare is reportedly battling for his life at a local hospital.

Abigail Chingwaru (28) is accused of throwing Mr Tembo Kainson from the third floor after a disagreement.

Chingwaru yesterday appeared before Harare magistrate Ms Tilda Mazhande charged with attempted murder and was remanded in custody to May 10. She was advised to apply for bail at the High Court.

Prosecutor Ms Linda Gadzikwa told the court that on April 24 at around 8.35am at Hamilton Heights, passers-by saw Kainson falling out from the apartment.

Police who attended the scene questioned Chingwaru as she was understood to be the sole occupant of the room at the time the incident occurred.

It was later discovered that Chingwaru had not acted alone, but her accomplices managed to flee from the scene.

She was arrested as a result.

The court heard that Kainson was rushed to hospital and is now in a critical condition.
