A sex worker has been arrested after she allegedly ganged up with her friends and beat up a man who failed to pay her more money after he had convinced her to risk both their health by having raw sex

The incident which attracted hordes of passersby happened on Sunday at around 9pm at a hotel which is along Lobengula Street.

Ropafadzo Mutananga (23) would have none of it after David Munkuli (35) told her that he does not have anything on his EcoCash wallet to pay for services rendered.

An argument ensued, David tried to sweet talk the sex worker, but it seems her pleas fell on deaf ears. Ropafadzo grabbed David and slapped him on the face with open hands.

Her friends joined in the brawl and beat David up. He was rescued by police officers who were on patrol.

They took Ropafadzo and David to Bulawayo Central Police Station where a docket of assault was opened.

He appeared before Tredgold magistrate Jechonia Ncube facing an assault charge.

She pleaded guilty to the charge.

She said: “Your Worship, I’m a sex worker and I survive on that. I have three children that I look after. This guy hired me for a short time sex session and pleaded with me not to wear protection saying he will pay more I then agreed. After all the risk I exposed myself to he told me that he does not have money on his EcoCash.”

She added: “ That incensed me and I had to beat him, I apologise for that because I beat him out of anger.”

David, who suffered bruises on the face said: “It’s not my first time to hire her, but I got shocked when she shouted at me after I told her that I’m waiting for my money to reflect on my account. She accused me and slapped me while also insulting me. She then beat me with her friends who are also sex workers. I suffered a fractured arm.”

Ropafadzo was remanded out of custody to next week on Tuesday for sentencing.
