AJC finals in Kenya

Tennis Federation Southern African championships held in Windhoek, Namibia.
The zonal championships were acting as qualifiers for AJC finals with participants taking part in the -16, Under-14 and Under-12 age groups.

The top seven players in the Under-16 and Under-14 progressed to the finals in Kenya while for the Under-12 the tournament was used as a platform for development.

Alwyn Mushonga and Julius Mutetwa finished fourth and fifth respectively in the boys’ Under-16 while Nicole Dzenga was first in the girls’ Under-16.
She beat Sedi Jacobs of Namibia 6-0, 3-6, 7-5 to clinch the title.

Mehluli Sibanda was sixth in the boys’ Under-14 and Kimberly Bhunu finished seventh in the girls’ section to book their places in Kenya.

Keren Muswere and Karen Machisa, who took part in the girls Under-16 and Under-14 age groups, managed eighth position in their respective age groups and they will have to wait for confirmation from ITF who have to decide if they can proceed for the finals.

Tennis Zimbabwe administrator, Cliff Nhokwara, said the two have a chance to go for the finals if the international federation does not find other players who are better than them in the region who could not take part in the zonal tournament due to different reasons.

“ITF looks at the entire region to see if there are some better players who would not have participated in the event because of different reasons. If they don’t find any then the two can progress to the finals.”
