Mbira queen Hope Masike will tonight perform her last show in the country at the Misty’s in the capital before she leaves for her European tour.

In an interview with The Herald Entertainment, Masike urged people to come in their numbers.

“This is going to be my last show before I leave the country for my 2015 European tour, you know it feels good to be performing in your own country in front of your own people and it also hurts that I will be saying goodbye since I am going to be away for some time. I will miss home and all my fans here.”

Masike promised an explosive fun-filled night.

‘‘I am promising the best performance and I am also going to be belting some hits from my first album ‘Hope’, my second album and some of the single tracks,” she said.

Masike added that she always enjoys representing Zimbabwe in different countries.

“It is always an honour to represent my country, culture and everything else when I tour. It always gives me the pleasure and more appreciation of my country and its entire heritage,” she said.

Barely seven years in the industry, Masike has already proven to be pillar in mbira music and to date she has toured several countries including Norway, Zambia, South Africa, and Netherlands. She has undertaken collaborations with several international and local musicians such as Monoswezi, the Monkey Nuts and Bokani Dyer. Being a mbira player, singer, songwriter and dancer, she is one of Zimbabwe’s top exports to emerge in this decade.

She is best known for her strong and clear voice, exceptional mbira playing and her role in the popularisation of modern mbira music. Much as it has a strong and well-defined mbira base, her music is a blend of different music styles, with a fascinating repertoire ranging from ancient traditional mbira classics to jazz driven scats. Having fused her most fascinating scats and ancient Zimbabwean vocalisations with complimenting interlocking mbira melodies, her music defies genre. It is therefore referred to as world music or just mbira-fusion.
